THE PROCESS

How Dermaplaning
Works

01

CLEANSE & ASSESS

Skin is thoroughly cleansed and assessed to confirm suitability and identify any areas requiring extra care.

02

BLADE EXFOLIATION

A sterile surgical blade gently removes dead skin buildup and fine vellus hair using controlled, precise strokes.

03

SERUM INFUSION

Freshly exfoliated skin is primed to absorb hydrating and active ingredients more effectively.

04

PROTECT & GLOW

Hydration and SPF are applied to calm, protect, and enhance your post-treatment glow.

Why Dermaplaning

Six Reasons Your Skin
Will Thank You

Instant Smoothness & Brightness
Removing dead skin cells and vellus hair in one pass immediately reveals softer, smoother, more radiant skin.
Enhanced Product Absorption
Without a barrier of dead cells and fine hair skincare products are able to penetrate more effectively.
Flawless Makeup Application
A dermaplaned face creates a smoother canvas for makeup without clinging to texture or peach fuzz.
Reduced Fine Lines & Texture
The exfoliation process stimulates gentle cellular turnover, gradually softening the appearance of fine lines, rough patches, and minor textural irregularities with consistent treatment.
Peach Fuzz Removal
Vellus hair traps dirt, oil, and product residue — contributing to a dull, shadowed appearance. Removing it instantly brightens the complexion, particularly for those with darker or more visible facial hair.
Manual Exfoliation
Dermaplaning is entirely mechanical — no acids, enzymes, or chemicals are involved. This makes it ideal for sensitive skin, rosacea-prone skin, pregnant clients, and anyone who cannot tolerate chemical exfoliation.

Preparation

Before
Your Treatment

  • Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs) 3–5 days before treatment
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure — no sunburn or active tan in the treatment area
  • Do not wax, thread, or use depilatory creams on the face for at least 2 weeks prior
  • Arrive with clean skin — no heavy makeup or active skincare products on the face
  • Inform your esthetician of any active breakouts, cold sores, or skin sensitivities

Aftercare

After Your
Treatment

  • Apply SPF 30+ before any sun exposure — freshly exfoliated skin is more sensitive to sun exposure.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and neutral moisturiser for the first 2–3 days
  • Avoid retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and other active skincare for 48–72 hours
  • Do not apply heavy makeup for at least 6 hours after treatment — let products absorb fully
  • Keep pillowcases, towels, and makeup brushes clean following treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — this is a persistent myth. Dermaplaning only removes vellus hair at the skin surface; it does not affect the hair follicle, the growth rate, or the character of the hair. Vellus hair will regrow at its natural rate and texture — fine, soft, and the same colour as before. Only genetics and hormones determine hair thickness and colour.

Not at all. Most clients describe the sensation as a light brushing or gentle scraping — similar to shaving but softer. There is no pain and no anaesthetic required. The treatment is deeply relaxing for many clients, particularly during the serum application phase.
Every 3–4 weeks is the standard recommendation, aligning with your skin’s natural cell turnover cycle. This frequency also coincides with the regrowth timeline for vellus hair. Monthly treatments maintain consistently smooth, bright skin year-round.
Yes — because dermaplaning is entirely mechanical and chemical-free, it is one of the safest exfoliation methods for sensitive skin, rosacea-prone skin, and clients who cannot tolerate acids or enzymes. It is also safe during pregnancy when many chemical exfoliants are contraindicated.

When performed using sterile tools and proper technique, dermaplaning is unlikely to cause breakouts. Following proper aftercare and keeping the skin clean after treatment helps minimise irritation and congestion.

Absolutely — dermaplaning is an excellent pre-treatment for facials, HydraFacials, chemical peels, and LED therapy because it removes the barrier of dead cells and hair, allowing active ingredients to penetrate more deeply. It also pairs beautifully with microneedling when spaced appropriately. Your esthetician will advise on the best combination for your skin goals.

Both treatments exfoliate the skin differently. Dermaplaning uses a sterile blade to remove dead skin and fine hair, while microdermabrasion uses an abrasive surface to resurface texture. Dermaplaning is often gentler and better suited for sensitive skin.

Yes — dermaplaning can benefit anyone looking to improve texture, brightness, and product absorption. Treatment areas are assessed individually based on hair type and skin condition.
